5. Don’t be ‘That Guy’ at the Security Checkpoint

You know exactly who ‘that guy’ is. It’s that person in front of you at the security checkpoint who waits until the last minute to prepare for inspection. That’s not going to improve anyone’s travel experience, especially with such increased passenger volume like during the holiday season! There’s simple things you can do to make your journey more pleasant for yourself and those around you. Get prepared before you get up to the checkpoint. Have all of your gear ready to go into the bin, your shoes off, and be anticipating your turn. Laptop lovers, please save everyone else and either get your machine out and ready or use TSA-friendly cases. Be courteous and we’re sure everyone will be much happier.

4. Know where you’re going

Don’t go somewhere without researching the area first! Know a little about the local culture, history, cuisine, and activities. Instead of spending those few hours every day figuring out what to do, you’ll already have in mind what’s next!

3. Pack it Like You Mean it

Everyone hates packing because undoubtedly there’s still something left that you just can’t fit. Make it a habit to always make a packing list based on the events, activities, and outings that you plan on partaking while traveling. This way you can pack only what you know you’ll need. If you overpack, your bag is likely to be damaged en route, while if you under pack you might find yourself doing some unforeseen shopping upon arrival!

2. Don’t Lose it

The last thing you want is to be one of the people whose baggage doesn’t make it to your destination. There are a  few simple things you can do to keep your luggage safe and detract from the allure of theft.  First and foremost is to NEVER check your bags. Pack everything you need into your carry on! If that’s just not feasible, you should check only what you can deal with being lost. Your carry-on should include all of your valuables, gifts, breakables, etc. This way you don’t have to worry about your bag being smashed along with everything in it. Rule of thumb: If you pack your suitcase and can sit on it without worrying about something getting damaged, then you’ve packed well.

To deter theft, there’s a few simple things you can do to make your bags less attractive. If you have designer bags, leave them at home. Designer bags mean designer clothes. Designer clothes mean money. Seeing designer bags floating around the baggage carousel is an easy pay day for an airport theif. Use bags that are sturdy, yet don’t scream ‘I’ve got nice things inside!!!!’. It also helps to add something to your bag to make it unique; such as a tag or strap that is easily recognizable. This way you’ll quickly recognize your bag and someone won’t mistake it for their own!

Avoid spending the holidays sprawled out in Aunt Harriet’s living room by celebrating in the comfort of your own home away from home! Pick your new hometown: Orlando, Sedona, or even Cancun! Spend a week in paradise instead of sleeping next to the potpourri! Better yet, with vacation rentals your whole family can come along! With so much space and creature comforts, your holiday getaway provides an exciting new place in which to celebrate the season and family! This way no one will have to worry about encroaching on anyone’s personal space! When you’ve had too much of Uncle Bill, you can simply walk across the hallway to your own bedroom!
