Happy 40th Birthday ‘Virginia is for Lovers’

‘Live the Life’ in Virginia Beach‘Virginia is for Lovers’ is one of the most well-known and loved travel slogans in the world and hard to believe the slogan is marking its 40th anniversary this year. The slogan embodies the passion and love of life within the commonwealth of Virginia.

The Richmond-based advertising agency Martin & Woltz, Inc., is responsible for coining the phrase after copywriter Robin McLaughlin penned suggested slogans of ‘Virginia is for Mountain Lovers’ and ‘Virginia is for Beach Lovers.’ Since these phrases were not all-encompassing of the commonwealth’s offerings, it was reduced to simply, ‘Virginia is for Lovers.’ The slogan debuted in the March 1969 issue of Modern Bride.

Which Virginia do you love? We’re passionate about Virginia Beach for a fabulous beach vacation either with the family or a girlfriends getaway with the gal pals to ‘Live the Life.’ We’re also a fan of Williamsburg for the dichotomy of the world’s largest living history museum and fast-paced thrills at Busch Gardens Europe. No matter which Virginia vacation you chose you’ll probably fall in love and will be making plans for a return trip sooner than later.
