Virginia Beach Jams with Music Festivals All Summer Long

Friday, April 17th, 2009

‘Live the Life’ in Virginia BeachThe musically inclined will be booking their Virginia Beach summer vacations around one (or more) of the boatload of music events this year.

Certainly, the nostalgia of beach blanket bingo will be inspired during the May 14 – 17 “Beach Music Weekend” taking place on the beach, of course.

Those who like to bang a gong will head over to the inaugural “World Music Drum Festival” (17th Street Park) for percussion paradise featuring sounds from various cultures including jazz, rock and Kodo. Participate in the open-to-the-public drum circle on the beach and see drumline displays by college bands.

Pull out the tie dyes and bell bottoms and bring along the Aqua Net (hairspray) because you’ll need some big hair to fit in during “Sandstock – A Blast from the Past” June 26 – 28 on Virginia Beach. Tribute artists will play favorites from the 60s, 70s and 80s ranging from Led Zeppelin to Sha-Na-Na and Sly and the Family Stone. Whether you’re a “Flower Power” child, “Disco Diva” or “Big Hair Rocker,” come on out and rock on with your bad self.

Roll out the blanket and make it a day or two during the area’s longest running jazz festival, the “27th Annual Norfolk Jazz Festival” July 24 & 25 at Town Point Park. Enjoy the rhythm of jazz with local and regional performers along with a nationally-recognized jazz recording artist.
