Callaway Golf Company is giving baseball’s professional players more incentive to knock it out of the park this season. Throughout the 2010 season, any major league player who hits a home run that travels a distance of at least 470 feet will receive a set of Callaway Diablo Edge golf clubs. These clubs are the longest of their kind ever developed by Callaway.
Can this be achieved? According to hittrackeronline.com which collects data on every long ball, 2009 saw 10 of these home runs with 27 almost making it – they were between 460 and 469 feet.
It’s been known pitchers have a love affair with the links and more power hitters are making their way to the greens. The April 2010 edition of Golf Magazine featured Major League Baseball players and their passion for golf. Interestingly, the magazine explained the correlation between baseball skills and golfing skills. These players’ golf games are built on bold, aggressive swings, just like within the ballpark.
Underscoring Callaway’s commitment to distance and power, the new Diablo Edge line features the Diablo Edge Driver — the longest, straightest all-titanium driver that Callaway has ever made. The Diablo Edge Fairway Woods, an immediate hit with Tour Professionals around the world, offer significant distance gains over their predecessors. Moreover, Callaway’s Diablo Edge Irons feature an accessible sweet spot and are the longest stainless steel irons the manufacturer has ever developed.
“Driving the ball longer than anyone else during competition takes talent and a bold approach that we want to reward in 2010,” said Jeff Colton, Sr. Vice President of U.S. Marketing and Sales, Callaway Golf. “Ballplayers that embody the attitude and skill that it takes to drive a ball 470 feet and longer are exactly the type that would want to play our new Diablo Edge clubs, which are perfect for anyone looking to blast the ball longer and straighter than ever before.”
When watching your favorite major league baseball player hit one out of the park this summer, hope he reaches that 470 feet mark so he can soon say “fore” out on the links. In the mood for golf? Why not start planning summer golfing vacations in Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach or Orlando.
