Guy Walks Across America

“Guy Walks Across America” is the latest YouTube video sensation stopping viewers in their tracks and in the work place. Uploaded on July 20, 2010, the less-than-two-minute, feel-good video already has more than 1.8 million views and counting. Over 2,000 still images follow a handsome dude named Mike on a 14-day cross country journey to compile the mesmerizing video.

Beginning at the Brooklyn Bridge, the journey ends at the San Francisco Bridge and travels through cities as Washington, D.C., Chicago and Las Vegas. Check out Mike’s travel itinerary over on Google maps which contains witty little insights about the making of the video.

In addition to the intriguing imagery is catchy music streaming through the video. The upbeat tune is called “Home” performed by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

The video was shot on a shoestring budget, we just don’t know how long that shoestring is, and word is Levi’s came in as a sponsor. This makes the perfect match, since the video primarily follows Mike from behind. Another tidbit is the cast and crew traveled in a recreational vehicle and edited video along the way.

After watching the “Guy Walks Across America” video, view “Walk Across America - Behind the Scenes” to see how the video was created. .

Yeah, good stuff.

MGM RESORTS INTERNATIONAL LANCE BURTONNow you see him but pretty soon you won’t. Master Magician Lance Burton is wrapping up his 14-year career at the Lance Burton Theatre at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas on Saturday, Sept. 4. For 12 years, Burton has been named “Best Magician” by Las Vegas Review-Journal and has performed at the Monte Carlo since it opened on June 21, 1996.

“It has been an honor and a pleasure to have Lance Burton headline at Monte Carlo for the last 14 years,” said Monte Carlo President & COO Anton Nikodemus. “We are proud to have called Lance a member of the MGM Resorts International family and wish him nothing but the best as he pursues a new chapter in his legendary career.”

“Performing at Monte Carlo and introducing more than 5 million people to the world of magic has been a fantastic experience for me,” Lance Burton said. “I have loved every minute of this historic run and look forward to turning my attention to new opportunities.”

Lance Burton performs at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at The Lance Burton Theatre. Tickets for all upcoming performances are on sale and may be purchased by phone at (702) 730-7160 or online at www.montecarlo.com. For more information about Lance Burton visit his website at www.lanceburton.com.

Before booking that Las Vegas vacation, here’s some bits of trivia about Lance Burton from IMDB.com.

Lance Burton’s favorite car is the Corvette; he drives a fake white one in his Las Vegas show.

The magician enjoys reading Anne Rice.

Shouted, “That was STUPID!” after escaping death during the taping of a television show at Buffalo Bill’s Casino-Resort in Primm, Nevada. Burton was tied to the tracks of a rollercoaster and escaped at the last possible moment. Word has it he frequently opens his stage shows by showing that clip on the big screen.

Better plan a Las Vegas vacation before Sept. 4 to see this magical legend and we have a pretty good idea where you can find some affordable lodging.

Travel to Las Vegas to See the Next Miss Universe Crowned, Aug. 23, 2010

Will Venezuela claim a trifecta during the 2010 Miss Universe® Pageant in Las Vegas on August 23? Both Miss Universes for 2008 and 2009 hailed from Venezuela, which was the first time a country captured back-to-back crowns in the pageant’s history. Or will Miss USA, Lebanon-born Rima Fakih, earn the title of Miss Universe 2010?

No matter who wins, traveling to Las Vegas for the Miss Universe® Pageant is the opportunity to dust off the tiara (you do have a tiara, don’t you?), get glammed up and rub elbows with society’s who’s who. We’re not sure which society these who’s who hail, but we are pretty sure attending will certainly earn bragging rights. And what better city to host the 2010 Miss Universe® Pageant than Las Vegas? Everyone knows, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

The Miss Universe® Pageant is held in a different destination each year and was last in Las Vegas in 1996. Being a joint venture of Donald J. Trump and NBC Universal, we know the event will be over the top, and something not to be missed.

“Las Vegas was built to host special events and attracts millions of visitors from around the world each year,” said Cathy Tull, Senior Vice President of Marketing at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA).  “We are delighted to host the 2010 Miss Universe® Pageant and look forward to showcasing the destination to our guests and the television viewers that will be joining us for this global event.”

Contestants represent about 80 countries and will compete in swimsuit, evening gown and interview categories. Tickets for the Miss Universe® Pageant are on sale now and prices range between $85 and $350, plus service charges. To help ease the cost of attending, check out the affordable Las Vegas accommodations offered by Resort Rentals International during the August 23 event.

If you’re most comfortable wearing your tiara at home rather than at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, the 2010 Miss Universe® Pageant will air live on NBC and Telemundo, Monday, August 23, 2010, beginning at 9 p.m. ET.
