Just a four-hour drive from Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, in Sonora, Mexico, is Puerto Pensaco. Located on the Sea of Cortez the vacation destination, also referred as Rocky Point, is home to a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, the Mayan Palace Resort, challenging deep sea fishing, scenic parasailing, value shopping, and leisurely sightseeing. The U.S. Dollar is welcome and currently has decent buying power.

Puerto Pensaco began as a fishing village in the 1930s and developed into a shrimp producing area. The U.S. Prohibition Era brought vacationing U.S. businessman Johnny Stone who saw potential to attract Americans to fish and vacation. He’s responsible for building the town’s first hotel and gradually, the Mexican vacation destination has become popular with Americans seeking to relax, unwind and up for adventure.

Some natural activities in and around Puerto Pensaco vacationers can enjoy include (and yes, we know it requires a little bit of driving back north to the border but trust us, they’re worth it):

Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
Life and landscape of the Sonoran Desert is celebrated at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Drive a lonely road, hike the backcountry among cactus, enjoy the magnificent beauty of the Southwest.

El Pinacate Volcanic Region Reserve
Considered one of the most unique volcanic zones in the world, the Grand Pinacate and Grand Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve conserves gigantic craters, ancient history and culture. The reserve is located halfway between Puerto Pensaco and Sonoyta.

Other activities Puerto Pensaco vacationers can experience include snorkeling, beachcombing, kite surfing, and kayaking.

Mayan Palace Resort offers the ideal Puerto Pensaco vacation accommodations so when looking to get away, check out the deals being offered by Resort Rentals.

“Get extra face time with an important client; become a groupie for your favorite band; grab a ticket to the away games; extend summer with some extra rays in the Caribbean; take a spontaneous trip to see the extended family; or grab some genuine jambalaya or clam chowder,” said Robin Hayes, executive vice president and chief commercial officer for JetBlue Airways.  “You can do it all as often as you like in a month without emptying your pockets. It’s our answer to the ultimate road trip.”

We really like the way JetBlue thinks! Drink margaritas in Cozumel, Mexico one weekend and roll the dice another in Las Vegas.
